Help: Entering password data

In the DC Password Manager, you may enter a password into a password record several ways - including via the random password generator. See below for instructions on the various ways you may enter password data into a password record.

Entering a password directly

You may copy a value into the Password field, or type one in directly. Please note that when you do, the bullet character will show in place for the characters of your password. You may check the Show Password checkbox, to remove the bullet characters shown for your password, so that you can view and interact directly, with the value in your Password field.

Entering a password via the random password generator

Instead of figuring out and coming up with a password, you can use the DC Password Manager's random password generator. The DC Password Manager's random password generator easily creates high entropy passwords by default, which are virtually impossible to predict. (You can test the strength of the passwords you generate here.)

To use the random password generator while editing a password record (see here and here), click on the square icon, below and to the right of password field input line. This takes you to the Password Generator page illustrated below.

(Note: instead of clicking square icon, below and to the right of password field input line, you may alternately click on the Password Generator menu command, on the main menu of the DC Password Manager, to obtain the same result. See here for more information.)

To generate a password, all you have to do is click on the Generate button, on the bottom left of the page. This will generate a random password, based on the default settings of the generator. You can alter the settings of the generator to generate the type of random value you like. After you are satisfied with the value created by the generator, you can click on the OK button at the bottom of the page, to accept the value, and return back to the main page with the value inserted into the Password field. If you would rather not accept a password created by the generator, you can click on the Cancel button at the bottom of the page, and return back to the main page without a value inserted into the Password field.
